Accessibility and Tests – meet.js

Gaining of knowledge

I would like to share a brief review with you of the recent meet.js event in Białystok, which took place on January 30, 2024, at 6-Ścian Pub. The meeting was really cool, and the atmosphere was great as always.

The first speaker, Maciek, presented a continuation of his topic on “Elegant tests.” I learned a lot about front-end testing, which will definitely be useful in my work. The presentation was technically excellent. It was immediately apparent that the speaker was professionally prepared.

The second presentation was led by Paweł, and his topic was: “What’s this about accessibility?”. It was a truly interesting presentation where I learned many facts about good and bad practices in designing websites with accessibility in mind. I also discovered how some screen readers interpret content on websites. The speaker made us aware that we are all able-bodied… but only until a certain point. In a few years, each of us will need more accessible websites, written in proper HTML, that screen readers for people with disabilities can handle well.
Paweł (or as the introducer twisted it, “Jacek”) also mentioned about the latest guidelines and legal aspects related to accessibility.

In conclusion, I would like to highlight the relaxed style of the meeting and the technically excellent, informative presentations. It was great that we had a certain amount allocated for drinks at the bar, which always promotes interaction – the atmosphere became even more relaxed. Thanks to all the speakers and organizers for a wonderfully spent time!

See you at the next meet.js!
