B-JUG#19 Guide to Observability

Gaining of knowledge

On March 26, 2025, I attended a very interesting meetup organized by Białostocki JUG. The event took place in the cozy BTL Lalki café, and the main topic was observability tools like logs, metrics, traces, and events. The presentation was led by Michał Niczyporuk, an experienced software engineer with 16 years of work in various industries. He shared his knowledge and practical tips.

Michał explained different types of observability tools in a simple way. These tools are very useful for programmers in their daily work. He focused on how to use logs, metrics, traces, and events effectively to understand how applications work and to quickly find problems. The presentation was not just theory—Michał showed real examples and talked about good practices and mistakes to avoid.

What I liked most was that Michał didn’t only teach technical knowledge but also showed how to apply it in real projects. This gave the participants many practical skills. At the end of the session, Michał emphasized that understanding observability tools is a strong foundation for every programmer, no matter their experience level.

As a junior Java developer, I value every chance to learn and discover new tools. This meetup was a great opportunity for learning and networking—I talked with more experienced developers and shared thoughts about everyday challenges at work. The atmosphere was friendly and encouraged open conversations.

I learned more about observability tools and how to use them in practice, which will definitely help me grow as a Java developer. I’m looking forward to the next events organized by Białostocki JUG! 😊
