B-JUG#20: Survival Guide in a Haunted Project

Gaining of knowledge

A meetup like a horror movie – today I want to write a bit about ghosts in IT projects. Have you ever worked on a project that felt like a haunted house from a scary movie? I just came back from a meetup where this topic was shown with a lot of humor, distance, but also… truth!

The presentation took us through the dark corridors of IT projects, where you can meet old ghosts of bad decisions, many skeletons falling out of the closet, voices whispering different requirements, ancient code, huge monoliths deep in the basement, mysterious people in suits, scrolls with strange documentation, mummies wrapped in bureaucracy, and micromanaging puppeteers. Sounds familiar? For me, it really does!

What’s interesting, the presentation was not very technical, but it was very interesting and useful. Instead of talking about frameworks or lines of code, the speaker shared a lot of tips on how to survive in different projects. What should you pay attention to? When is it worth fighting with the whole world, and when is it better to adapt and make friends with the project, even if at first it looks like a big monster?

I must also mention the visual side – the presentation had great graphics, and the backgrounds and illustrations worked really well together. The cool graphics and AI-generated backgrounds made the whole thing not only inspiring but also very nice to watch.

To sum up: even if there is no easy way out of a haunted project, we can always fight the monsters together or… make friends with them. The most important thing is not to lose your sense of adventure and to learn from mistakes – both your own and others’.
